NHL central scouting announced their midseason draft rankings Monday, the rankings feature several players from Grande Prairie who have all played minor hockey in the region.

Medicine Hat Tigers goalie and Grande Prairie native, Garin Bjorklund has been ranked 10th among North American goaltenders by NHL central scouting.

Bjorklund spent one season with the GPAC Bantam AAA Storm where he made the Bantam AAA team in his first year of eligibility. He appeared in 16 games during the 2015-16 season.

Bjorklund moved to Calgary the following season to continue playing Bantam and Midget AAA for the Calgary Buffaloes. In his second year of Bantam AAA, he finished the year with a 1.97 goals-against average and had a .918 save percentage.

These numbers led him to be selected 21st overall by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

This season Bjorklund has appeared in 18 games for the Tigers. He currently has a 3.04 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.

Ethan Edwards, a native of Grande Prairie is ranked 85th among North American skaters. Edwards spent a good portion of his minor hockey career playing in Grande Prairie, before moving to St. Albert. He spent time playing for the Peewee AA Storm in the 2014-2015 season.

He is currently playing for the Spruce Grove Saints of the AJHL and has 21 points in 36 games this season. Edwards is committed to attending the University of Michigan for the 2021-2022 season.

Prince Albert Raiders defenseman Kaiden Guhle was ranked seventh among North American skaters on the list. Guhle spent four seasons playing his minor hockey in Grande Prairie before moving to Sherwood Park following his Atom season.

Kaiden’s brother Brendan also spent time playing hockey in Grande Prairie for the Bantam AAA Storm, until the 2010-2011 season. Brendan is currently a member of the Anaheim Ducks.

NHL central scouting will release its final draft rankings in April. The NHL draft takes place in Montreal this year from June 26-27.
