GP Sports Council to undergo name change

Friday night at the 2019 Northwest Alberta Sports Excellence Awards it was announced that the Grande Prairie Sports Council would be rebranding and moving forward will now be known as the Grande Prairie Sports Connection.

Executive Director Karna Germsheid explained how this name better suits the organization.

“The Board and the Council had a lot of discussion around the name the Grande Prairie Sports Council and exactly what we do. This year we did some strategic planning and really the bottom line is the Grande Prairie Regional Sports Connection describes exactly what we are doing.”

Germsheid adds she feels the new name is both friendlier and more approachable.

“We are here to connect people to each other. We are here to connect them to recognition platforms, education, media, hotel contacts, business contacts, you name it.”

The Sports Excellence Awards marked a soft launch of the name change, but there are some items which need to be rebranded which includes their website.

A hard launch for the name change will come in the spring.
