MD of Greenview makes $2,535 donation on behalf of Fight for Hope

The MD of Greenview has made two charitable donations on behalf of the Fight for Hope Foundation.

The MD held a fundraiser during their staff Christmas party, where they raised $2,535. That money was split down the middle, and donated to the Ronald McDonald House and the Kids with Cancer Society.

Fight for Hope, a local non-profit third party charity, supports those two organizations. It was started by Scotty Cartwright, the owner of Scotty’s Burger Shack, and his wife, when their son was diagnosed with leukemia.

Cartwright says the two organizations were incredibly supportive when his son was first diagnosed, and provide a great service to critically ill children and their families.

“Being a family that lives away from Edmonton, as far as the Peace Region families do, you need somewhere to stay when your critically ill child is at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. So, the Ronald McDonald House and the Kids with Cancer Society both stepped up, and there was moral support, oh man, support on so many levels. Much more than just a home away from home. I don’t know what any of us families would do without these two networks. I don’t even look at it as though it’s a donation, me, I look at it as an investment for one another for tomorrow. ‘Hope now and for the future’ is what the Kids with Cancer Society’s slogan is. “Hope now and for the future.'”

Cartwright says when the MD contacted them with the news of the donation, he asked that they just make the donation directly to the causes on behalf of Fight for Hope.

He adds that Fight for Hope’s mandate is to support these two charities by rallying awareness and funds, and through this donation, each charity was awarded $1,267.50.

Cartwright says the MD recognizes and is familiar with what the Foundation has been doing for the charities, and have been inspired by their mission and wanted to get involved.

“Because of our, mine and my wife’s, son’s battle with leukemia, they were inspired by how even our mission at Scotty’s Burger Shack, that they wanted to show their support and get involved. Many of the staff with the MD of Greenview stop off at Scotty’s Burger Shack, many of them have met us and talked with us in regards to our journey and our story. They were just inspired by such a little place having such big hearts that they contacted us and asked how to go about doing it (making the donations), and we said absolutely, that’s fantastic.”

Over the past three years, the Fight for Hope Foundation has been holding charity amateur boxing matches to raise money for the charities. In September, 2018 the Foundation was recognized for their contributions to the Kids with Cancer Society, and a Fight For Hope room was opened in the Society’s Papa Ken’s House in Edmonton.

He says so many children, around the world, need these kinds of supports, and is grateful to everyone who has contributed to the causes over the years.
