PCFAC Bantam Elite Storm pull off upset of Sherwood Park, Golden Arrow Storm finish Crown Tournament

PCFAC Bonnet’s Bantam Elite Storm pull off upset of Sherwood Park

The PCFAC Storm Bonnet’s Bantam Elite Storm hosted the Sherwood Park Royals this past weekend for a two-game homestand. The Royals came into Grande Prairie having only suffered one loss on the season and with the best record in the league.

The Storm decided to play comeback kids this weekend.

Saturday the Storm were able to pick up a 3-2 victory in overtime. The team had trailed 2-1 heading into the final minute of play, but with with 40 seconds remaining in the period, the Storm’s Molly Hamilton was able to score the tying goal to send the game to overtime. She also would add the overtime winner, to help her team get the two points, and have Sherwood Park suffer only their second loss of the season.

On Sunday, the Storm found themselves trailing again late in the third period 4-3.

In the final minute of play, the team’s leading scorer, Kamryn Aebly picked up two goals in a span of 21 seconds to steal another two points from Sherwood Park with a 5-4 win and give the Storm the weekend sweep of the league’s best team.

Aebly was a force in Sunday’s game. She picked up four goals and one assist on the day. Aebly now leads the league in goals scored with 18 goals in 18 games. She also sits tied for fifth in points.

It’s the first time that Sherwood Park has lost back to back games all season. The Storm sit third in the North Division with 27 points. They’ll be in action Saturday when they host the Calgary Fire White in Clairmont.

Golden Arrow Bantam AAA Storm finish Crown Invitational tournament with three straight losses.

Following a strong showing in the group stage of the tournament, the Golden Arrow Storm saw themselves lose in their final two games of the tournament.

Saturday morning the team fell to the Burnaby Winter Club 6-3. This meant that the team’s hope of winning the tournament were over. The team would play one more game on the Sunday, where they fell 4-2 to the SEAC Tigers.

Zackary Schantz led the team in scoring for the tournament with five points in five games.

With the tournament finished, the team will resume league play on Saturday, when they travel to Medicine Hat to play the same Tigers team.

Boston Pizza Minor Midget Storm take point from weekend series against CAC

The Boston Pizza Minor Midget Storm were able to pick up a point this weekend against the Canadian Athletic Club (CAC).

Saturday the Storm fell 3-1, but on Sunday they were able to bring CAC to the brink.

The Storm got two goals from Rhys Doyle and one from Sam Antonio to help lead them to a 3-3 tie.

Storm goalie Connor Stojan stopped 25 shots in the game. The team will refocus and travel to play the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers on Saturday.
