Court update: Trial dates set in Grande Prairie kidnapping, robbery charges dismissed in High Prairie

Alberta Justice says a man charged in a Grande Prairie kidnapping case will stand trial in February of next year.

Andrew Lee Schurman’s trial will take place February 9-12, 2021 in Grande Prairie Court of Queen’s Bench.

He is facing four charges, including kidnapping, housebreaking to commit an assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and mischief.

He and another man were arrested after an incident that happened on July 3, 2018.

Mounties said in a release at the time that two men broke into a home in south Grande Prairie, assaulted the person inside, then forced that person into a vehicle and took off.

A chase ensued that ended near Crooked Creek. The person abducted was not injured.

Another man charged in the case, Kendall Kruger, was given a 54-month jail sentence last July after pleading guilty to break and enter to commit a robbery and failure to stop for police charges.

High Prairie robbery case dismissed

Alberta Justice says all the charges against a Drayton Valley man arrested after an armed robbery in High Prairie have been dismissed.

The charges against Dakota Frederick Ouelette included robbery with a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting a peace officer.

His charges were dismissed January 21 in High Prairie court, two days before a scheduled trial.

He was arrested in September of 2018 after a robbery in August of that year.

A man had gone into a store, walked up to the till, and pulled out a firearm.

Cash and a bottle of booze were stolen.
