Jan 27, 2020 | 2:11 PM

The Fort St. John Huskies wrapped up first place in the NWJHL standings Sunday afternoon, after defeating the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks in a 7-6 overtime thriller.

The Huskies showed their resilience in this game. They found themselves down 4-2 in the second period and battled back to tie the game twice, making it 5-5 after 40 minutes of play.

The third period saw the Junior Canucks score with four minutes remaining to give them the late 6-5 lead, but with less than two minutes remaining, the Junior Canucks’ Will Fletcher would take an interference penalty, sending the Huskies to the powerplay.

The Huskies would capitalize on the powerplay and tie the game at 6-6 with 1:02 remaining in regulation, sending it to overtime. The Huskies powerplay was incredible on the day, going five for six.

In overtime, Jared Loewen would score the winner for the Huskies, to knock off the Junior Canucks, completing a truly remarkable comeback.

The Huskies have won 13 straight games, and haven’t lost since December 7.

Elsewhere it was a quiet week in the NWJHL with only four other games, here’s how they finished.
