The Grande Prairie Storm dropped their third straight game Tuesday night to the red-hot Whitecourt Wolverines 1-0. Whitecourt came into the game with five straight wins.

The lone goal of the game came in the first period, as Ethan Leyer scored 13:26 into the period to make it 1-0. Former Storm forward Bryce Osepchuk picked up an assist on the goal.

It was a period that was dominated by the Wolverines, they would outshoot the Storm 12-4 in the frame and get an opportunity on the powerplay early in the period, but were unable to capitalize.

The second period would see no scoring, but the Wolverines had their chances.

The Storm would head to the box four times in the period, sending the Wolverines to the powerplay. Luckily goaltender Kaeden Lane and the Storm penalty kill were able to stand strong and kill off the man advantage.

The Storm’s best opportunity to tie the game came with under a minute remaining in the second when Storm forward Austin Schellenberg was awarded a penalty shot.

Schellenberg couldn’t convert and the game remained 1-0 after 40 minutes.

In the third, the Storm would outshoot Whitecourt 14-5, but Wolverines goaltender Connor Ungar could not be beat, making 24 saves on the night for the shutout victory.

The Wolverines have now won six straight games and are all of a sudden sitting three points back of the Bonnyville Pontiacs for third place in the AJHL North Division.

Grande Prairie remains sixth in the standings with 42 points (18-22-6), six points back of Drayton Valley for fifth.

The Storm will look to end their three-game slide on Friday when they return home to face the Sherwood Park Crusaders at Revolution Place, as part of a double header.
