Chilly WIlly Winter Run

Chilly Willy Winter Run returns Saturday

Jan 29, 2020 | 1:56 PM

The annual Chilly Willy Winter Run is returning to Muskoseepi Park this Saturday, February 1.

The yearly run takes place in the park and gives the Peace Region community a chance to participate in a five-kilometre walk or a five, ten or 20-kilometre run. The event is open to all fitness ability levels and ages.

“We’re really proud of it and it’s a great run,” said Johnathan Clarkson, the Assistant GM for Nitehawk Adventure Park. “This year we have 170 participants and we’re hoping to get to 200. It’s a great way to get out, enjoy the trails in the winter and stay active.”

It costs $60 to participate in the run for anyone that is over the age of 18. Anyone under the age of 18 can register for $30.

Nitehawk has also been operating a weekly run group for people that have already signed up for the run. The run group gives runners an opportunity to check the course out early before the real race on Saturday. A couple of weeks ago, the group still ran the track despite temperatures reaching minus 32.

“The cool thing with this event is that regardless of temperature it still goes ahead. People just dress accordingly and make sure that they’re staying warm. As long as you stay moving and wear the proper layers, you’ll be good.”

The deadline to register for the run is set for Thursday, January 30 at 1:00 p.m. You can register for the run here.

Those who are registered for the race are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early so they can make sure they have everything they need for the race and are ready to run.
