Applications open for Aquatera’s 15th annual Bottle Donation Program

Feb 5, 2020 | 5:00 AM

Aquatera is now accepting applications for it’s 15th annual Bottle Donation Program.

Local non-profit organizations can apply to be the beneficiaries of the program, though there are some requirements. Sarah Martin, the Public Relations and Communications Specialist for Aquatera, says the recipients of the program must be organizations that have a focus on the youth community. They also have to match three specific criteria.

“So, the first one is you must be a non-profit organization within our service region, so that includes the City of Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie, the Town of Sexsmith and the Town of Wembley.”

“The second thing that we’re looking for is organizations that provide programs or services that target youth under the age of 18.”

“And then lastly we’re looking for organizations that will apply the funds that they receive directly to the enhancement and support of youth programs.”

Martin says several organizations have already applied for the program, and the deadline to get an online application in is March 15.

After the deadline closes, the committee will get together and go through every application one by one, to decide who will be part of the program.

“Every month a non-profit organization in our service region is selected as the recipient of the Bottle Donation Program. So, they receive a donation totalling the amount in the donation bin for that month.”

Martin adds that there are several places that will collect the donations for the program.

“Anybody who is looking to support the recipients through the program can take their bottles and cans to the Eco Centre, the Aquatera landfill, or they can take them to either of the Recycle Plus Depot. They can drop them off anytime, and let them know that they are there to drop bottles off for that specific program. There are bins that are labeled as well so that they are easy to find and access.”

Over the past 14 years, Aquatera has been able to collect over $850,000 through this program, and distribute that money back into the community.
