Huskies advance to semi-finals with game five win over Pirates

The Grimshaw Huskies only won three games all season, but were able to put together wins when it mattered most. The Huskies defeated the Falher Pirates 6-3 Thursday night, to advance to the NPHL semi-finals.

Following what was a tight-checking first period, Christian Kenny would sneak one into the Pirates net with 27 seconds left in the period to make it 1-0 Huskies.

In the second the Pirates would tie it up with Trevor Tokarz scoring at the 13:15 mark.

The tied game wouldn’t last long as the Huskies would take control, scoring three times in the second to take a 4-2 lead heading into the third.

Once the third period arrived, the Huskies were able to pull away. Ty Wiebe would add a goal 11:45 into the third to extend the Huskies lead to 5-2.

Both teams would add another goal and the Huskies would advance to the semi-finals with the 6-3 victory.

Grimshaw will travel to Dawson Creek Saturday to face the first-place Canucks in game one of a best of seven series. The winner will advance to the NPHL finals.

The other semi-final matchup is between the Manning Comets and Grande Prairie Athletics. That best of seven series beings on Saturday, when the A’s host the Comets at the Coca-Cola Centre.
