Vipers end long winless skid , mixed day for GPAC teams

On November 16th, the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers picked up a 5-4 home ice win over the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings.

Little did they know at the time that it would be almost 3 months to the day before they would be able to celebrate their next win.

The Vipers put an end to a 22 game winless streak on Saturday night by doubling up the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks 4-2.

Jacksyn Clark, Owen Listhaeghe, Jace Grant and Jordan Bartlett scored for the Vipers, while Mason Mcleod and Brandon Rowley replied for the Junior Canucks.

In other action on Saturday night, Fort St John won the battle of the top two teams in the league by beating North Peace 3-2 in Peace River.

Alex Nimmo, Nick Loewen and Joel Bourgeois scored for the Huskies, while Cole Isaac and Jonathan Noskey replied for the Navigators.

And Eric Dentinger’s 3rd goal of the night at the 2:43 mark of overtime gave Fairview a 5-4 win over the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings.

Spencer Bjorkland and Thomas Dechant also scored for the Flyers, while Keaton Mercredi with 2, Geoff Dick and Darby Berg replied for the Kings.

The Ernie’s Sports Experts Major Midget Storm wrapped up their regular season on Saturday with a 2-2 tie in Edmonton against South Side Athletic Club.

Tye Evans and Ty Toews scored for the Storm, who finished second in the Dodge Division with a 17-13-2 record.

Zackary Shantz scored twice to lead the Golden Arrow Bantam AAA Storm to a 5-3 win over Edmonton K of C. Spencer Brazel, Wesley Golden and Spencer Rheaume also scored for the Storm.

Tye Georgeson made 30 saves in a losing cause, as the minor midget AAA Storm fell 1-0 to Red Deer.

And the Higson Dental Group Bantam AA Storm played to a 5-5 tie with Parkland, as Bowen Grycan (2), Wyatt Jones, Austin Boyd and Nathan Sanregret scored for the Storm.
