It’s playoff time in the North West Junior Hockey League, as the first of two quarterfinal series gets underway Tuesday night.

In the opening round of the postseason, the fifth place County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings will take on the fourth place Fairview Flyers, while the third-seeded Dawson Creek Junior Canucks will square off with the last place Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers. The Fort St. John Huskies and North Peace Navigators, who finished in first and second, respectively, earned first round byes.

Action will start in Fairview Tuesday, as the Kings and Flyers will faceoff in game one at the Fairplex. On paper, the matchup is heavily in favour of the Flyers, who took seven of the eight meetings with the Kings this season. However, the last two meetings in the regular season were decided in overtime, both won by the Flyers on February 8 and 15.

The other quarterfinal matchup will start on Wednesday, with the Vipers visiting the Junior Canucks. The Vipers will be looking to take the momentum they gained back on Saturday, where they defeated the Junior Canucks 4-2, snapping a 22-game winless streak.
