Alberta has expanded coronavirus testing to include travellers from Hong Kong, Singapore, Iran, Japan, South Korea and Italy.
The province’s chief medical officer of health is asking travellers returning from those countries as well as mainland China to monitor themselves for symptoms for 14 days but says they are not required to self-isolate unless they have visited China’s Hubei province.
Chief Medical Officer of Health in Alberta, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says there are so far no suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province but the spread of the virus to new countries is concerning.
Hinshaw says the province is making preparations to ensure the health system is ready to respond if the virus comes to the province.
