Flyers complete series comeback against JDA Kings, advance to semi-finals

The Fairview Flyers are moving onto the NWJHL semi-finals, after defeating the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings 9-5 Wednesday in a winner take all game five in the NWJHL quarterfinals.

Fairview went into the first intermission with a 3-2 lead and came out and took control of the game in the second.

After scoring a goal in the first, Dawson Blanchette added two more in the first 10 minutes of the second to pick up an early hat trick giving his Flyers a 5-2 lead.

Blanchette also picked up an assist in the period on Logan Mazerolle’s goal, giving the Flyers a 6-2 lead, Blanchette finished with a four-point night.

Brent Headon scored a powerplay goal just before the second period expired for the Kings to cut the Flyers lead to 6-3 heading into the final frame.

With their backs against the wall and season on the line, the Kings would have to wait until midway through the third period to find their offensive game.

Rylen Kleist and Geoff Dick would score two goals in 3:19 to cut the Flyers lead to 6-5 with 6:25 remaining in the game.

The Kings tried to spearhead a comeback, but would fall just short. Remee Richard would score shorthanded for the Flyers giving them a 7-5 lead with under five minutes to play.

The Flyers would add two more before the clock expired and would take the home the 9-5 victory, moving onto the semi-finals against the Fort St. John Huskies.

It’s the first time the home team won a game in the series. A date for the semi-finals has not yet been announced.
