Major Midget Storm down Fort Saskatchewan to inch closer to North final

Mar 3, 2020 | 8:58 AM

The GPAC Ernie’s Sports Major Midget Storm are now just one win away from the AMHL’s North division final, after they claimed a 4-2 win over the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers in game three of their semifinal series at the Coca-Cola Centre Monday night.

The Storm now lead the best-of-five series 2-1 thanks to a two-goal effort from Codie Saunders, who made it 2-0 for the home side after 20 minutes of play.

The Storm then made it 3-0 thanks to a goal from affiliate player Mason Kyllo early in the second. Kyllo also posted an assist for the Storm in the win.

Ashton McNelly would add two for the Rangers in the second to bring the game within one, but that is as close as they would get.

Dayne Tews added the insurance marker in the third to help lift the Storm to victory.

The team was also helped by a 32 save performance from goaltender McCoy Bidewell.

The Storm will have a chance to close out the Rangers in game four on Wednesday night in Fort Saskatchewan. Game five, if necessary, would go on Friday evening back at the Coca-Cola Centre.

The winner of this series will face the St. Albert Nektar Raiders in the North final, as the Raiders swept the CAC Gregg Distributors in the other North semifinal.
