GPAC Major Midget Storm drop game four in Fort Saskatchewan

Mar 5, 2020 | 10:20 AM

The GPAC Ernie’s Sports Major Midget Storm will need a fifth game to decide their AMHL semi-final, as they fell 3-2 to the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers in game four on Wednesday night. The series is now deadlocked at two games apiece.

The Storm found themselves down just over four minutes into the game, as Ashton McNelly beat Storm goalie McCoy Bidewell to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

That score would hold until early in the second period, when the Rangers extended their lead thanks to a goal from Matt Smith.

McNelly would add his second of the game late in the middle frame to make it a 3-0 lead for the home side after 40 minutes of play.

The Storm would apply some pressure in the third period, getting on the board early in the period to begin their comeback attempt as Dayne Tews potted his third goal of the series to make it 3-1.

Tews would then setup a Nolan Flint marker with 2:11 to go in the third to pull within one.

Despite outshooting the Rangers 13-1 in the final period, the Storm would fall short, sending the series back to Grande Prairie for game five.

The decisive game will go on Friday at 5:15 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Centre.
