Storm look for series lead in Spruce Grove, NPHL final resumes

Mar 7, 2020 | 8:07 AM

The suddenly confident Grande Prairie Storm are in Spruce Grove on Saturday night for game five of their Alberta Junior Hockey League North division quarterfinal series.

After dropping the first two games of the series, and in the process extending their winless streak to 17 games, the Storm have battled back to tie the series at two wins each after a 3-2 double overtime win on Wednesday, and a 2-1 win on Thursday.

One of the big reasons for the turnaround in the series has been the play of Storm goaltender Kaeden Lane, who stopped 75 out of 78 shots in the two Storm victories.

Another has been improved play of the Storm’s penalty kill unit.

After giving up 8 goals in 17 chances over the first 10 periods of the series, the Storm have killed off the last four power play chances for the Saints, and also got a short handed goal from Nathan Morgan that was the game winner in game three.

Game six of the series is set for Tuesday night at 7:30 at Revolution Place.

Meanwhile, the North Peace Hockey League final resumes tonight in Dawson Creek, as regular season champion Dawson Creek hosts Grande Prairie in game three of the series,

The home tean has been triumphant in each of the first two games, with the Canucks picking up a 6-3 win in the series opener on Tuesday.

The Athletics responded with a 6-0 win Thursday night at the Coca-Cola Centre.

Game four is set for Tuesday night in Grande Prairie.
