Four new cases in Alberta, health officials recommend cancellation of bigger events

Mar 12, 2020 | 4:25 PM

Alberta has four new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The province’s chief medical health officer, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says the cases include a two-year-old who had travelled with family to Florida.

The child, who is from the Calgary area, is expected to recover.

Alberta now has a total of 23 cases all travel-related.

Dr. Hinshaw is also recommending organizers cancel events in the province with more than 250 people, and that no one travel outside Canada.

That includes things like sporting events, conferences and community events. It does not include grocery shopping, church or airports.

The province adds any event expecting more than 50 attendees, but with international visitors or that would include high-risk people like seniors, should also be cancelled.

Other events can go ahead, but hand sanitizers should be in place and there should be distancing between attendees.
