Grande Prairie Airport continues to monitor COVID-19 situation

Mar 13, 2020 | 4:52 PM

The Grande Prairie Airport says it’s monitoring the current COVID-19 situation.

In a statement Friday afternoon, the airport says, “while we realize that air travel is a key point of concern, we also understand that this essential service is a necessary form of travel to our region.”

At this time, the airport is functioning as normal, and extra precautions are being taken in accordance with public health directives.

Director of Operations Doug Mark says steps are being taken to ensure the safety of travelers.

“We are working with air carriers, airports, government officials and health services in light of COVID-19. At the airport, we are doing double cleaning and monitoring the situation 24 hours a day so we can react quickly,” said Mark.

While some international airports in Canada will be taking passengers temperatures, Mark says Grande Prairie will not be taking temperatures as the airport doesn’t receive any international travel.

Mark also mentioned that it’s too early to tell if there’s been a drop in passengers at the airport.
