GPREP reminding businesses to follow provincial guidelines, renews State of Local Emergency

Apr 2, 2020 | 12:09 PM

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) is reminding all essential and non-essential businesses to abide by provincial guidelines.

The call comes after Friday’s announcement by the Government of Alberta that ordered certain businesses to close immediately and to remain closed to the public until further notice.

Restrictions apply to the following types of businesses:

  • Close contact businesses like hair salons and barbershops, tattoo and piercing studios and esthetic services.
  • Wellness studios, clinics, and non-emergency/non-critical health services provided by regulated health professionals or registered professionals including dentistry, physiotherapy, massage, podiatry, chiropractic and optometry services.
  • Dine-in restaurants are only allowed to offer take-out and delivery services.
  • Non-essential retail services that fall into the categories of clothing, computers and gaming stores, and services in shopping malls and shopping centres such as hobby and toys, gift and specialty items and furniture.

A full list of businesses affected can be found here.

While non-essential businesses are to remain closed to public access, GPREP says that business owners and employees can continue to work out of their workplace to take care of tasks that cannot be done remotely.

Businesses that are caught disobeying the guidelines of the province are subject to a fine of up to $100,000 for a first offence and up to $500,000 for a subsequent offence for more serious violations.

GPREP also announced on Thursday that it has renewed the State of Local Emergency. A State of Local Emergency lapses seven days after declaration and must be renewed.
