Local dance studio finding virtual way to finish off their season

Apr 4, 2020 | 7:00 AM

DansConnection School of Performing Arts has announced an online alternative for students during the closure of the studio during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shelly Rutherford, Co-Founder of DansConnection, says they have launched DCTV.Online, where they will stream classes for students to keep up to date on lessons.

“So, we can see them dancing, and they can see their instructor dancing. We’re doing them two or three hours a day, and then a few classes every day. We’re also doing paint classes; we’ve done craft classes because we also have a pre-school. We’re doing live classes for parents at night, we did a fitness barre class.”

Rutherford says this will help provide a sense of normalcy to the students and kids involved with the studio.

“To keep them in something that they’re familiar with, and most of all keep them connected, socially, to their friends, because some of these kids sometimes spend hours at the studio in (the) evenings, and now to see none of their friends any day, it’s just nice for them for connection.”

She says that right now, the classes are being offered to current students of the studio because they only have around eight weeks left in the season, but that non-students are also being welcomed to sign up for the online beginner classes, that are set to begin after Easter.
