T-Bird auction in support of Summer Games

Apr 1, 2018 | 6:00 AM

A 1963 T-Bird is being auctioned off as a fundraiser for the Alberta Summer Games being held in Grande Prairie this July.

The car was donated by the Revolution Auto Group and Lindsey McNeil, Games Manager for the 2018 Alberta Summer Games says they were looking for something different to do for a fundraiser.

“We want our games to be really, really fun and really exciting, so we thought that this would be a good way to engage the whole community and raise money for the games,” she explained.

She says they are on track budget-wise and this fundraiser will put them over the top and allow them to leave an even bigger legacy piece for the community.

“All of the proceeds go directly back to the games and at the end of the games legacy funds are created that will go to the city and the county to help improve sport,” said McNeil.

Tickets for the T-Bird are $25 each or 3 for $50 and can be purchased here.

Volunteers needed

They are still recruiting volunteers for the game. About 1,500 more volunteers are needed.

McNeil says they need volunteers for a wide-range of positions including people to make sure the athletes get their food on time, and volunteers to make sure the athletes are staying in their accommodations after curfew.  They also need volunteers for security and medical roles.

“Pretty much any skill-set that you have, we can find a way to incorporate it into the games,” said McNeil.

There is a volunteer coordinator in the games office that can answer any questions by email at volunteers@2018asg.ca or by phone at 780-532-8195.
