MORE SUPPORT FOR LOCAL CHARITIES

Province to begin matching donations to not-for-profits until May 31

Apr 12, 2020 | 3:10 PM

The province of Alberta is announcing that it will match, dollar for dollar, donations to Alberta-based charities and non-profits up to $2 million.

The program is in effect April 15 through May 31, and organizations will be waiving any administration fees associated with the campaign.

“Alberta’s charities and non-profits and the gift of those who donate is an integral part of what makes us Albertan. These incredible organizations are struggling to fill gaps created by the increased and changing demand for services created by the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Leela Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women.

“By matching donations, we will amplify the generosity of Albertans and boost the capacity of community organizations working tirelessly to make sure vulnerable Albertans are cared for during the pandemic.”

One of those charities noted by the province in a release was the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, which has created the Better Together Fund, as well as the Community Kitchen and Food bank Fund.

Several other organizations across the province have already established COVID-19 fundraising campaigns, the province notes. Albertans who donate to these organizations will have their donations matched.
