The province has confirmed 138 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, creating the largest single day increase the province has seen during the pandemic.

A majority of those cases came in the Calgary Zone, where testing was expanded last week to any Calgarian who displayed symptoms of COVID-19.

Two new cases have been confirmed in the North Zone Tuesday, with one located in the M.D. of Smoky River, bringing the total cases of COVID-19 in the North Zone to 107.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, also confirmed two more deaths from the novel coronavirus in continuing care facilities in both Edmonton and Calgary.

There have now been 48 deaths caused by COVID-19 in the province.

An up-to-date list of confirmed cases in the Peace Region can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Three cases (All active)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 33 cases (22 active, seven recovered, four deaths)

Dr. Hinshaw says 914 cases have recovered in the last 24 hours, which is an increase of 37 since April 13.

Eligibility for testing was expanded on Monday to any Albertan experiencing symptoms including a runny nose, fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.
