No COVID-19 fatalities Sunday as North Zone adds nine new cases

Nine new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the North Zone Sunday, while 247 new cases were identified across the province to bring Alberta’s total number of cases to 4,480 as of April 26.

The increase of nine cases in Northern Alberta brings the zone’s total to 182 cases as of Sunday.

In the Peace Region, four of those new cases were reported in the M.D. of Smoky River area, where 55 cases have now been identified. 32 of those cases have recovered, while 13 cases are active. Ten residents of the Manoir du Lac continuing care home in McLennan have died as of April 26.

Two new cases were also identified in the Big Lakes County and Mackenzie County area on Sunday.

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (Four active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 55 cases (13 active, 32 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 30 cases (13 active, 15 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (One active, six recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 20 cases (19 active, one recovered)

There were also no fatalities reported across Alberta for April 26, keeping the number of deaths in the province at 73.

Seventy-eight more individuals have recovered from COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing that total to 1,549 as of April 26.

Six more Albertans have been admitted into hospital for COVID-19 treatment, meaning 83 people are now in hospital. Twenty of those individuals have been admitted to intensive care units, which is the same number as Saturday.

Over 4,400 COVID-19 tests have been processed at the provincial lab over the last 24 hours. There have been a total of 125,310 Albertans tested in the province as of April 26. Of that total, 10,083 people in the North Zone have received a test.
