A pair of Clairmont residents have been charged after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and weapons.

Grande Prairie RCMP say they were patrolling in Clairmont shortly after midnight on April 21, when the patrolling officers stopped two suspicious vehicles.

As police searched the vehicles during the stop, two passengers of one of the vehicles were arrested as authorities allege to have discovered a sawed off rifle, a bowie knife, crystal meth, a small amount of fentanyl and what appeared to be crack cocaine.

With that, 41-year-old Bruce Tronsgard and 35-year-old Melissa Healey have been charged with three counts each of possession of a controlled substance. Tronsgard also faces 14 additional charges, including:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of weapons contrary to an order
  • Fail to comply with a release order

Both are now slated to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court. Tronsgard is due in court May 11, while Healy is set to appear in court on July 3.
