On Friday, May 8, 2020, our beautiful beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Grace Augusta Dix passed away peacefully at the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital after a long courageous battle with lung cancer, at the age of 82 years.
Grace was born on September 29, 1937, on the family farm near Pambrun, SK, to Carl and Bernice Carlson. She was a loving big sister to Maxine, Marlene, Roy, and Lavern. Growing up, the Carlson kids shared many adventures on the farm that brought them a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love.
Grace graduated from Grade 12 and entered the workforce. She met Ernie while she was working at the Healey hotel in Swift Current, SK, and they soon became a couple and were married in 1964. Grace was a very hard worker and always kept herself busy. She was a farm wife, a waitress, a real estate agent, and she also managed rental properties.
She was a gifted musician. She taught herself to play the guitar and played by ear. Grace was talented in so many ways. She spent many hours tending to her flowers, and one of her most prized flowers was her fern leafed peony. She also loved sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking, canning, crossword puzzles, genealogy, her dogs, and visits from her family.
Grace was very proud of her family and loved them with all her heart. She will be sadly missed by her four children: Valerie Cesnulis, Doug Dix, Roxanne (Norman) Mueller, and Carla (Kevin) Dupuis; her eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Lacey, Brandi, Dustan, Jessie, Sean, Brendan, and Daylon; and her four great-grandchildren: Laila, Brooklyn, Felix, and Dylan; her sister Laverne Karlsen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Carl and Bernice; her husband Ernest; her sisters Maxine and Marlene; her brother Roy; her brother in-law Verlynne; and her sister in-law Bonnie-Jean.
Grace will be laid to rest beside her loving husband Ernest Dix on Friday, May 15, 2020, at the Beaverlodge Cemetery at 2:00pm. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family only.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and medical attendants, and the staff at Oliver’s Funeral Home for all of the care and compassion that was provided to Grace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beaverlodge Hospital Foundation (Box 480, Beaverlodge, AB, T0H 0C0), Sorrentino’s Compassion House (10909 76 Ave., Edmonton, AB, T6G 0J6), Cross Cancer Institute (11560 University Ave., Edmonton, AB, T6G 1Z2)
