Alberta adds 39 new COVID-19 cases Monday

There was no change in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Peace Region Monday, as the province reported 39 new cases for May 18.

As of Victoria Day, there are 1,036 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, with 18 of those active cases being located in the North Zone. The total number of recoveries rose by 66 on Monday, meaning 5,510 Albertans and 196 Northern Alberta residents have recovered from COVID-19.

One more Albertan has died from the disease over the last 24 hours in the Calgary Zone, raising the death toll from COVID-19 in Alberta to 128.

Case numbers in the Peace Region as of May 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Three cases (All recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 67 cases (Three active, 54 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 36 cases (One active, 33 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (Six recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 33 cases (Seven active, 26 recovered)

Hospitalizations across Alberta due to COVID-19 jumped by eight over the last 24 hours, as 65 Albertans are now in hospital, an increase from 57 on Sunday. There are just two people in the North Zone in hospital as of Monday.

Admissions to intensive care remained the same as Sunday, as nine people are in ICU in Alberta. There are no ICU admissions due to COVID-19 in the North Zone.

Over the last 24 hours, 3,458 tests have been processed at the provincial lab, meaning 199,237 people have received a test in Alberta. 15,168 people in the North Zone have been tested as of May 18.
