Greenhouses seeing new faces and more gardeners during pandemic

May 21, 2020 | 5:46 PM

Greenhouses in the Peace Region have been opening and continuing operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bev Rodgerson, the owner of Willow Valley Greenhouses, says they have been seeing a lot of new faces at their shop this season too.

“Primarily due to the fact that we’ve been able to tell people they can come in and look around, and choose their products, they don’t have to only do it online, so, there are some new faces because of that, but lots of returning customers as well.”

Chad Friesen, one of the owners and manager of Dunvegan Gardens, says they too have noticed more gardeners in the Peace this year.

“Everyone is staying at home, so there is less travel and whatnot, and usually, that equates to more people gardening, growing their own vegetables, that sort of thing, keeping their yards neat and tidy.”

Both Rodgerson and Friesen say they have followed all the provincial health orders, sanitizing, and promoting physical distancing and so far, Rodgerson says they have had no issues with their customers following the guidelines.
