Shots fired during High Prairie traffic stop, suspects in custody

High Prairie RCMP say all suspects have been brought into custody, following an incident this morning where shots were fired during an attempted traffic stop.

A spokesman with the High Prairie RCMP tells EverythingGP that police attempted to make a traffic stop of a vehicle with three occupants at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, when shots were allegedly fired at police and the suspects attempted to get away.

Police say no officers were injured.

A pursuit followed in the town’s northwest, where the car was found abandoned near the Elk Rodeo Grounds. Several firearms were found in the vehicle by police.

Police then believed the three suspects from the vehicle attempted to flee though JC Park. One suspect was arrested on scene while a second suspect was taken into custody soon afterwards.

However, the third suspect remained at-large for most of Sunday morning. Police had asked residents of the community to lock their doors and stay sheltered in place while the investigation and manhunt was active.

The suspects were brought into custody with the help of an Emergency Response Team from Edmonton, as well as a Police Helicopter and Police Dog Services.
