Beaverlodge continues advocacy for new health complex to be part of province’s relaunch projects

Jun 4, 2020 | 12:22 PM

Beaverlodge’s Town Council and Mayor Gary Rycroft have submitted letters to provincial Cabinet Ministers suggesting the Mountview Health Complex as an ideal stimulus project for the north as Alberta comes out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Town says that the suggestion is a response to the province’s desire to invest in stimulus infrastructure, and the government’s campaign promise to deliver on P3 projects. They say they have engaged with the P3 Capital Partners firm, which will work with all stakeholders to develop the vision and plan that was originally announced for the Health Complex in 2013.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with our neighbouring partners once again in the pursuit of this project that has been on our minds and in our hearts for the past several years,” said Mayor Gary Rycroft in a release. “I believe that 2020 will finally be the year in which everyone’s hard work will make Mountview Health Complex become a reality!”

A new Mountview Health Complex standing committee has been formed and will be made up of Beaverlodge Town Council and members from the County of Grande Prairie and the Grande Spirit Foundation.

The Town says that there is still a strong need for the Complex even with the new Grande Prairie Hospital, and that new seniors’ care beds are also needed for the region. They also note that Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews has been a strong supporter of the town and the project.

“My wife and I have raised our family in the Beaverlodge area and over the years have greatly benefitted from the care and service delivery provided by the Beaverlodge Hospital,” said Toews, in the same release. “I’m glad to hear of this renewed effort for the Mountview Health Complex.”
