It is with immense sadness, cherished memories and heartfelt love that the family of Maudie Elizabeth Brown Jensen (nee Williscroft) announce that Maudie lost her longtime battle with emphysema and COPD and passed away with her family by her side on Friday, June 5, 2020 at the age of 84.
Maudie was born to Richard and Constance Williscroft, on October 1, 1935 in the town of High Prairie, AB and lived and loved well during her lifetime.
As a young woman, Maudie ventured from High Prairie to the neighbouring community of Valleyview, where she met her soon to be husband, Allan (Bud) Raymond Brown. Bud and Maudie were supportive, involved and well-respected members of the community and you would often see Maudie in the stands of the Polar Palace Arena as she watched her daughter figure skating or her son playing hockey. She was a vocal fan!
Maudie was also a familiar face as the secretary treasurer of East Smoky School Division, from where, after 31 years of exemplary service, she retired in 1996. Maudie continued to enjoy the friendships which were made during her working years and her family is forever grateful for the many caring hours spent with Maudie by her dearest friend, Barb Newman and her caregiver Mylen Ramelb.
Maudie loved family time, whether at home, the many years of summer holidays spent on the road with a trailer and children in tow, or the many weekend camping outings at nearby Sturgeon Lake. She enjoyed the musical talents of her family, and bingo and casino nights with friends, but most of all, Maudie loved life in all its sadness and joy. Her strength, support, caring, outspokenness, humour, sharp mind, and her tremendous heart and spirit will be missed and remembered by all those who loved her.
Maudie leaves as her legacy her son Terry (Leslie) Brown; daughter Lori Rae Martineau; grandchildren: John (Megan) and Jeff (Jay) Martineau, and Joshua (Jordan), Tessa, and Keira (Nicholas) Brown; and her much adored great-granddaughters Quinn and Eleanor. Sharing in their sorrow is Maudie’s beloved pet Jae, who faithfully remained at her side until the moment of her passing. Maudie will also be greatly missed by her step-children: Fred (Marilyn) Jensen, Joyce, and Cheryl (Kenny) and their families. Many others, both family and friends will also deeply feel the loss of this beautiful lady. Those who were fortunate to know Maudie well, knew her as a spitfire, to say the least, and respected her as a woman who did not hesitate to speak her mind.
Maudie was predeceased by the father of her children Allen “Bud” Brown, by her second husband Ross Jensen, son in-laws Jack Martineau and David Hallick, and by her parents, many siblings, extended family members; and many longtime friends.
A private family graveside service will be held at Valleyview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Lung Association (4500 Stn South, Edmonton, AB, T6E 6K2).
