WestJet resuming Edmonton-Grande Prairie route July 5, adding more daily service to Calgary

Jun 15, 2020 | 10:04 AM

The Grande Prairie Airport will soon be seeing more flights coming and going, as WestJet has announced an updated flight schedule starting July 5, which will see the return of service between Edmonton and Grande Prairie, as well as more daily flights between Calgary and the Swan City.

The airline says between July 5 and August 4, there will be three daily flights between the Calgary International Airport and the Grande Prairie Airport. There will also be five trips weekly between Edmonton and Grande Prairie.

“Today’s schedule reflects our commitment to orderly and safe travel while providing steps to allow Canadians to get out, explore, and take part in critical economic activities like staying in hotels, eating out, visiting tourist attractions or simply just travelling to see friends and family,” said Arved von zur Muehlen, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer, in a release.

Flights between Grande Prairie and Edmonton have been suspended by WestJet since May 5 due to COVID-19. Since that time, both WestJet and Air Canada have been operating with limited service between Grande Prairie and Calgary.

The new flight schedule will now see WestJet have flights to 45 destinations including 39 in Canada, five in the U.S. and one in Mexico, which is an increase of nearly 102 per cent in its number of flights from those in June.

Some international flights will also be restored as part of WestJet’s new schedule, including flights from Calgary direct to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Atlanta.
