Construction underway on 28th annual Rotary Dream Home

Construction on the 28^th Annual Rotary Dream Home for the 2021 lottery is well underway.

The home is located in the Taylor Estates neighborhood and located right next door to the 2020 dream home.

Once complete, the newly built home will include 3458 square feet, with four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, two half baths and a grand two-story entrance.

New to this year’s dream home, is that the Dream Home Lottery decided to go with a new builder. For the first time, local company Unique Home Concepts is building the house.

Melissa Coulombe, the Raffle Manager for the Rotary Dream Home Lottery in 2021 says that it’s important for them to get locally owned companies to help build these houses.

“These are all local builders and they are the same community that supports us, so we want to move the business around for sure.”

Coulombe added that the lottery normally switches the builder of the homes every couple of years, so various builders within the city can get a chance to build the home.

She says that there is lots to look forward to with the construction of the new home.

“With a new builder comes a new style and feel of the home. We took a tour last week through the home and there is a lot of cool features that they’re putting in there. We can’t share all the secrets, but there is definitely going to be some surprises for the community this year.”

Ticket sales raised in the lottery also go to help benefit the community.

“The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie owns the Dream Home Lottery and they contract us to manage it. From there they use the funds that they fundraise to supports various community groups, events and projects,” explained Coulombe.

In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Dream Home Lottery and Rotary Club of Grande Prairie teamed up with the Salvation Army Food Bank and raised over $280,000 worth of food to food banks in the Peace Region, so they could help families that were suffering during the pandemic.

Construction on the home is expected to be completed in December, with tickets going on-sale shortly after that.

The final draw will take place in April 2021.
