A couple of Peace Region athletes will be attending Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team Summer Camp.

Spirit River’s Dayle Ross and Brooke Disher from Fort St. John have both been invited to the camp.

Ross, 17, is a defenceman who spent last season playing Midget AAA for the St. Albert Slash where she registered 12 points in 26 games.

Disher, 15, is also a defenceman. She has spent the last three seasons at Okanagan Hockey Academy Prep School in Penticton, B.C. Last season, she registered eight points in eight games.

The camp features the top 59 under-18 women’s hockey players in the country.

This year, it will take place virtually because of COVID-19. Players invited to the U-18 camp will have weekly meetings with the coaches and management until the 2021 IIHF U-18 Women’s World Hockey Championships.

While meeting virtually, Hockey Canada plans to discuss and educate players on various topics. These include at-home strength and conditioning plans, mental performance plans and check-ins, nutrition, dry-land skills, skating simulations, team-building activities, short-term international competition preparation and meetings with coaches.

The 2021 U-18 Women’s World Hockey Championship is scheduled for January 5-12 in Sweden.
