Roadwork on 100 Avenue to begin Wednesday
Crews from the City of Grande Prairie will be repaving and improving the traffic-flow of 100 Avenue, between the Grande Prairie Airport (124 Street) and 108 Street (Highway 40/43), starting on Wednesday, June 24.
The existing asphalt along the stretch of 100 Avenue will be replaced, the curb and gutter will be removed and reinstalled, lines will be repainted and there will be some landscaping work done. A free-flow lane will also be built on 100 Avenue, between 116 Street and 115 Street.
“Now that Hwy 43X is complete and the City has taken control over the old bypass, we are thankful to finally have the opportunity to improve traffic safety and improve the road to our City standard,” says Mayor Bill Given in a statement. “The western portion of 100 Ave. continues to be an important part of our regional transportation network as a critical connector back to Hwy 40, a transportation artery that supports the forestry, and oil and gas industries.”
While the construction is underway, both east and westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane, which may cause delays for travelers. Night construction is also planned for the intersections of 100 Avenue and 116 Street, and 100 Avenue and 108 street.
