330 KM TREK

Man walking from Calgary to Edmonton in support of lung association

An Alberta man will be hitting the road later this summer to help raise awareness and funds for the Lung Association of Alberta and Northwest Territories.

“There are few things in life that make me more proud than being an Albertan and a Canadian. Over the last few months of unprecedented strain and confusion in the world, I felt the need to do something that would help provide some positive community vibes,” says Chris Sadleir, who will be covering 330 kilometres from Calgary to Edmonton when he does the “Walk to Breathe” from August 7-17.

Sadleir’s father had a double lung transplant in July 2016 as a result of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and has been a strong supporter of the lung association ever since.

“The entire process has shown us that the issue of lung disease, and respiratory ailments, is far more reaching than I would have ever imagined – the thought of not being able to breathe is a very scary notion for the patient, as well as family and friends that are trying to be supportive,” Sadleir says.

The continued spread of COVID 19 has presented a very real and deadly respiratory disease, he adds, thrusting The Lung Association of AB & NWT into the minds of millions.

“Furthermore, The Lung Association encounters families on a regular basis that face uphill struggles with overlooked respiratory disease and don’t have the knowledge, support and financial means to endure.”

He added, “When I educated myself on the importance and needs of the Lung Association, I wanted to embrace the opportunity to do something to help spread the word.”
