Employees say human rights museum CEO resignation small win but not enough

WINNIPEG — An online account that shared allegations of a racist and discriminatory work environment at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights says the resignation of the Winnipeg museum’s president is just a first step.

The CMHR Stop Lying group posted on social media that John Young’s resignation was a small win, but the group’s supporters were not celebrating yet.

The group, which shared accounts from current and former museum employees, says there are more people who need to be held accountable and members will keep fighting.

The museum’s board of trustees announced Thursday that Young agreed to step down effective immediately.

Board chairwoman Pauline Rafferty says the museum leadership will act quickly to improve and rebuild trust with staff and others who have been let down.

Earlier this month, employees began sharing social media posts alleging racism and sexual harassment and said that the museum made them censor LGBT content during some school tours.
