Teens charged following string of vandalism in Fairview

Jun 26, 2020 | 5:44 PM

A pair of teenagers from Fairview are facing a slew of charges stemming from a string of vandalism that happened between June 5 and 7.

Fairview RCMP received 26 reports of vandalism during that three day span, primarily in the form of spray paint, at places in the community such as the arena, the fine arts building, the elementary school, the Fairview Shopping Mall, Boyt’s Home Hardware, two churches and eight houses. Police say the estimated damage totals over $30,000.

Seventeen vehicles were also hit with graffiti over that time frame, one of which had cough syrup dumped into the gas tank. RCMP say Classic Collision in Fairview donated their time and services to helping remove the graffiti from some of the vehicles and buildings affected.

“This is an example of how the Fairview RCMP, along with community members and businesses have come together to help each other during a difficult time,” says Sgt. Greg Beach, Detachment Commander of Fairview RCMP.

The 17-year-olds, whose names are not being released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are now facing 26 counts of mischief over $5,000. The two have been released from custody and are to appear in Fairview Provincial Court on September 9.

Sgt. Beach adds he is grateful for the public’s help in this case.

“If it were not for tips from the public, these investigations may never have been solved. The Fairview RCMP appreciates the support we receive from the communities we police.”
