No change in Grande Prairie area COVID-19 cases over weekend

The province of Alberta added 130 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, while there was no change to case totals here in the Grande Prairie area over that time frame.

The update is the first since Friday, as the province is no longer providing weekend updates on COVID-19 cases in Alberta. The new cases indicate those from July 3 (29 new cases), July 4 (52 new cases) and July 5 (49 new cases).

There are now 607 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, while 7,627 people are considered recovered. There were no additional deaths reported over the weekend in Alberta, which remain at 155.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 5 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 17 cases (One active, 16 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: One cases (Recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 72 cases (One active, 61 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 44 cases (Five active, 34 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: Ten cases (One active, nine recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Zero cases
  • Mackenzie County: 42 cases (Seven active, 35 recovered)

There are now 57 people in hospital with COVID-19 in the province, which includes an outbreak at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton. Six people across the province are in intensive care.

As of July 5, there have been 487,915 tests for COVID-19 processed at the provincial lab. A total of 34,197 people from northern Alberta have been tested.
