Grand Slam Postponed

Grande Prairie Grand Slam of Curling event postponed to September 2021

The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event slated to hit the pebbled ice at the Coca-Cola Centre in November has been postponed due to COVID-19.

The news came down Wednesday morning, as Sportsnet (who owns and operates the tour) announced it was moving the restart of the six-stop tour to April of 2021 and trimming that down to just two events.

With that, the Tour Challenge, to be contested in the Swan City, will now go from September 21-26, 2021 at the Coca-Cola Centre as part of the 2021-22 season.

Rob Corte, Vice President of Sportsnet and NHL Production, say the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The safety and well-being of curlers, volunteers, fans, partners and employees is of the utmost importance for Sportsnet,” said Corte. “Following careful thought and deliberation, we made the decision to postpone the season until we could safely deliver the world-class competition and intimate fan experience the Grand Slam series is known for.”

The tour is part of the World Curling Tour and features the top curlers from around the world.

The 2020-21 tour season will relaunch on April 13, 2021 in Toronto for the Princess Auto Players’ Championship before heading to the Humpty’s Champions Cup in Olds on April 27 to wrap up the season.

The 2021-22 season will then begin in Grande Prairie for the Tour Challenge. The Masters will then begin October 19 in Sarnia, Ontario, followed by the National on November 2 in Chestermere, Alberta. Tour organizers are working to reschedule the MERIDIAN Open slated to go in Las Vegas.
