County adds new COVID-19 case, City of Grande Prairie case recovers

There was a new case of COVID-19 identified in the County of Grande Prairie on Thursday, while the City of Grande Prairie returned to zero active cases as of the end of day July 8.

The province reported 37 new cases for Thursday’s update, while there were three more deaths in the Edmonton Zone, all at the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in Alberta to 161.

In the Peace Region, there were two new cases identified in the Big Lakes County area while one new case was found in the Clear Hills County area. The Mackenzie County area also added one new case as of the end of day Thursday.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 17 cases (All recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Eight cases (One active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: One case (Recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 72 cases (62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 46 cases (Seven active, 34 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 11 cases (Two active, nine recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Active)
  • Mackenzie County: 44 cases (Nine active, 35 recovered)

There are now 584 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, while 7,774 people have recovered.

A total of 6,966 tests have been processed over the last 24 hours at the provincial lab, bringing the total number of tests completed in the province to 507,169. 35,448 people from the North Zone have been tested since March.

Forty-six people are in hospital with COVID-19 in Alberta, seven of whom are in ICU.
