COVID-19 RESPONSE

Province seeking proposals to review COVID-19 response

Jul 13, 2020 | 10:28 AM

The provincial government is seeking proposals to review its response to COVID-19.

The third-party review aims to enhance Alberta’s capacity to respond to a potential second wave of the novel coronavirus and any other future health emergencies.

“A strong, coordinated response can help save lives, prevent wide-scale spread of disease and help jobs and the economy bounce back more quickly,” the government stated in a release.

A request for proposals (RFP) is now open for a ‘thorough review’ of all aspects of the pandemic response. These include:

  • Health system response
  • Economic response
  • Governance and decision-making
  • Procurement
  • Engagement with other governments and stakeholders
  • Communications

The province said the review will be similar to ones conducted after past historic natural disasters, such as the 2016 Horse River fire that hit Fort McMurray, the 2013 southern Alberta floods and the 2011 Slave Lake fire.

Consultants have until August 10, 2020 to submit their proposals.

All proposals will undergo a review process.

The province hopes to choose a successful candidate by August 19, with the goal being to start the pandemic response review immediately and have it completed this fall.
