School re-entry

Province to update school re-entry plan Tuesday afternoon

Jul 21, 2020 | 11:10 AM

Parents and students alike will learn of the province’s plans for the beginning of the 2020-21 school year, as Premier Jason Kenney and Minister of Education Adriana LaGrange will be providing an update on the school re-entry plan this afternoon.

A news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m., which can viewed in this story at that time.

The province has been looking at three different scenarios for school re-entry this fall, which include:

• Option 1: Normal school operations are able to resume

• Option 2: Schools are partially re-opened, with some level of restrictions

• Option 3: Teacher-directed at-home learning continues.

Last month, LaGrange said the government was confident that students would be back in school in September for near-normal operations with increased health measures in place.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, will follow up that announcement with an update on COVID-19 in Alberta.
