Remainder of slo-pitch season cancelled in Grande Prairie

Jul 21, 2020 | 12:30 PM

Organizers for the slo-pitch league in Grande Prairie say in a Facebook post Tuesday that “due to recent events”, the rest of the 2020 season has been cancelled.

Organizers say in the post that after much discussion, they felt there was no other choice but to call off the rest of the season.

“We made the effort to quickly restructure this season completely in proper compliance with AHS, to ensure all players safety during COVID, and provide as much playing time as possible for our teams. Unfortunately, many teams and players have created situations in which these new guidelines were not possible to enforce.”

The post continues, saying there were “legitimate concerns and complaints from our responsible players”, which they add were of top concern.

“Unfortunately, the players and teams that choose to ignore the rules that we are obligated to abide by put the players, teams, and reputation of the league at risk.

“If there were a way to fairly enforce the rules, there may have been a chance for this season. The sheer number of players who are not adhering to the rules makes this task entirely impossible.”

They add that team captains will be contacted in the near future and prorated refunds will be evaluated.

We will have more details as they become available.
