The work continues to pave part of 100 Avenue in Grande Prairie.

City Project Technologist Conor Coney says this is being done on both sides between 108 and 124 Streets.

He has some advice for anyone driving in that area.

“Things to be aware of are to watch for, the first thing would be our flaggers. Obey the signs and be patient. Also, pedestrians, look out for pedestrians because there are some pedestrians in that area.”

Coney says an extra layer of asphalt is being added to make the road stronger. A lot of paving is being done at night. Coney adds the target completion date is the end of August, weather permitting.

Also, the work is nearly complete on some new paving on 100 Street.

Coney says new pavement has been added on both sides between 108 and 116 Avenues.

We asked him how officials decide what roads need new asphalt.

“Typically, we assess them visually and, on a rating system, and that’s a rating system that’s an industry practice. From my understanding, it would have been a combination of both that would have (led to the) required work at that location.”

Coney says the paving is finished, but some final touches still need to be completed.

A lot of work is also being done on 92 Avenue in Grande Prairie.

Coney says the pavement is being replaced on both sides between 100 Street and Resources Road.

A lot of sidewalk is being replaced as well.

“Typically, before construction starts, there will be assessments completed to see which sidewalks can remain and which ones will have to be removed based on age and condition.”

Coney says the target completion date is mid-August, depending on the weather.
