Free Thought extends world record thoroughbred winning streak

Aug 16, 2020 | 8:24 AM

A locally owned horse extended it’s world record winning streak for thoroughbreds on Saturday.

Free Thought, who was bred in California and is owned by Sexsmith’s Chuck Stojan, won the Evergreen Park Distaff final, which was the opening race of Saturrday’s card at Evergreen Park.

The nine-year old gelding ran the 770 yard course in a time of 39.982, easily outdistancing the other three horses in the field.

It was the eighteenth straight win for the horse, a streak that dates back to June of 2017.

Saturday was a very good day for horses owned by Stojan.

Stripsteak, which is a five-year old gelding that was also bred in California, won the fifth race of the day, which was the Bank of America Challenge Regional Final.

With that win, Stripsteak has now qualified to compete in the Bank of America Challenge Championship on October 24th at The Downs in Albequerque, New Mexico, against horses from the United States, Mexico and Brazil.

A reminder that Sunday is Derby day at the Horses at Evergreen Park.

The nine race card is highlighted by the Grande Prairie Derby, which will be the eighth race of the day.

Racing begins at 1:15 at JDA Raceway.
