A 23-year-old Valleyview resident has died following a collision on Highway 49 north of Valleyview late Wednesday morning.

Valleyview RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision between a cattle hauler and a car just before noon on August 26, that occurred just south of Township Road 713 . RCMP, along with fire and EMS personnel, responded to the call.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the cattle hauling semi-truck was travelling southbound along the highway, when for what remains unknown reasons, collided with the car. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The accident had closed Highway 49 near Township Road 713 for most of Wednesday, but was opened up to a single, alternating lane by early evening. 511 Alberta is reporting that as of noon Thursday, all lanes have been reopened.

The name of the victim will not be released by RCMP
