Grande Prairie RCMP issue over 100 speeding tickets in school zones Sept. 1, 2

Grande Prairie RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down in near schools after handing out 89 speeding tickets in school zones on September 1 alone.

The municipal traffic unit says it conducted speed enforcement across the city on the first day back in school since March. Officers also issued violations to two suspended drivers and 12 tickets for other violations in school zones.

They say on September 2, an additional 14 speeding tickets were issued as well.

RCMP say they have increased patrols and enforcement in school zones, in what they say is an effort to increase school zone safety.

Grande Prairie Enforcement Services is also focusing on school zones this month with its Selected Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) and Bylaw Enforcement Education Program (BEEP).
