97 per cent of survey respondents say recreation is important to them, want municipalities to work together
Ninety-seven per cent of the households surveyed in June of this year by the Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee say recreation is important to them.
This group covers the City and County of Grande Prairie, MD of Greenview, Hythe, Beaverlodge, Wembley and Sexsmith.
Regional Recreation Coordinator Krista Schuett says they also found that 97 per cent of those surveyed believe all the municipalities should work together.
“Currently, one of the major things we’ve been working on is being able to help displaced user groups with the region being down two sheets of ice. There was a fire in Wembley at the arena there and the Clairmont arena was shut down earlier this year. We’ve been working by having a regional meeting each year with the ice managers and seeing how, collectively, we can help user groups to obtain more ice and (to) have workarounds.”
